As you are going about the day, do you find that you are grimacing a bit more than usual? It could be because of a bitter taste in your mouth that\u2019s not pleasant. It can be frustrating, but why is it happening exactly? There are several different reasons, some that aren\u2019t a serious problem and others that can lead to a dental emergency<\/a>. Keep reading to learn four possible culprits for this problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

1.)  Poor Oral Hygiene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Especially after you wake up, you may have a bitter taste in your mouth. This is because there might be a buildup of bacteria on your teeth and gumline. Be sure to brush twice and floss at least once every day! It\u2019s important to clean your tongue as well, to ensure you get everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.)  Certain Oral Health Issues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While this unpleasant situation may be remedied by a little care, some dental problems can be the cause! A couple common culprits are gum disease or cavities. These oral health issues may be minor at first, but they can turn into something serious when they’re not treated. You may need to seek urgent dental care from your dentist. Without tackling them while they are minor, you can risk losing a tooth if you don’t get the treatments you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.)  Some Medications and Supplements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are a couple of different medicines or vitamins that can contribute to a bitter taste in your mouth. As they are absorbed by your body, small remnants of them can find their way into your saliva and cause the familiar sensation. If it\u2019s too intense, then you can consider talking to your provider and seeing what can be done about it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.)  Dry Mouth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When your mouth doesn’t produce enough saliva, then bacteria can linger longer than they should. This condition can happen due to a variety of medications, autoimmune disease, aging, and smoking. Not only may you have a bitter taste, but you also increase your risk for oral health issues. It might not be a bad idea to drink plenty of water!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although having a bitter taste in your mouth may not be the best, it\u2019s not always a serious issue. It\u2019s a good idea to bring it up with your dentist to get to the root of the problem. After their help, you can be on your way to a healthy smile that you feel comfortable in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
